Introduction

Persephone's Return to Earth
Eventually, Zeus realized that Demeter's grief was causing a famine on earth. He intervened and ordered Hades to release Persephone. Hades agreed to release Persephone on one condition: she could not have eaten anything while she was in the underworld.
Unfortunately, Persephone had eaten six pomegranate seeds while she was in the underworld. This meant that she had to spend six months of each year in the underworld with Hades. The other six months of each year, Persephone was allowed to return to earth to be with her mother, Demeter.
Persephone's Marriage to Hades
Although Persephone was initially forced to marry Hades, she eventually came to love him. She became the queen of the underworld, and she ruled alongside Hades with wisdom and compassion.
